Training opportunities at Baldock Town Youth

The club is always looking to improve standards for everyone involved in the club and as such supports the development of its players, managers, coaches, referees, helpers and parents.

Coaching Courses

As a charter standard club, all our teams need to have a Level 1 qualified coach. This qualification includes a 3hr FA Emergency Aid qualification and a 3hr Child Protection module. The FA Emergency Aid and Child Protection modules are valid for 3 years and can be (need to be) renewed when expired. The club would also like to have more Level 2 qualified coaches.

The Level 1 course takes 2 to 3 days plus a couple of evenings to complete. These can be weekdays, weekends or a combination of those.

This covers the basics of warming up/down, drills, organisation, health and safety and child motivation/development. The cost is approx £90

The Level 2 course goes into more depth than the level 1 and takes 6 full days of initial training, plus 2 support days, 16 hours of logged coaching, study tasks covering fitness, food, planning sessions, coaching styles, communication etc. and finally two assessment days. It is hard work, time consuming and enjoyable but does require commitment and dedication to complete.

We tend to use Hertfordshire FA for courses because they are the nearest to us (usually) but we have often also used Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire football associations. Usually suitability of dates is the deciding factor of which county FA to use, but also costs and durations can vary quite a lot too.

Opportunities for youngsters .

From the age of 14 boys and girls can train and qualify as referees. This opportunity is not limited to players alone - players who have never played can get involved as long as they are reasonably fit, willing to learn the game and commit some time.

From the age of 16 you can get your feet on the first rung on the coaching ladder and attend the "Level 1".

Ladies

We are very keen to support more involvement for girls. The club needs more Level 1 qualified ladies as we would like to see more girls teams. If you are interested please speak to the training coordinator. This is not to say ladies can only be involved in helping with girls teams or vice versa for men !

See the link to the Womens Sports Foundation - www.wsf.org.uk

Parents

Parents can check that they are providing the best support for their junior footballers by attending the FA Soccer Parent course and the club is planning to run an 'in-house' soccer parent.

Referees

Referees are always in demand and we encourage as many as possible to qualify. Besides taking the full course and becoming a fully qualified referee there are often opportunities to just learn the laws of the game. These are excellent for linesmen who can then be confident they are up to date with the latest laws. Course formats vary considerably depending on which county you go with.

Coaching associations and other related bodies

Coaches are expected to take responsibility for their own development. There are many ways to achieve this such as:

Observing and working with other coaches

  1. The FA Website - www.thefa.com
  2. The FA Coaches Association
  3. The FA County Associations - It costs £10 a year to become a member of the Herts FA Coaches Association
  4. Womens Sports Foundation - www.wsf.org.uk
  5. Sports coach uk - www.sportscoachuk.org
  6. The Football foundation - www.footballfoundation.org.uk

How to get training through the club

If you are unsure what type of training is best for you consult the training coordinator or director of football. The topics above are just some of the ways you can get involved and help the club continue its success. Others include psychology, treatment & management of injuries and various topics run by county FA 's as one-off 'inset' days.

Register you interest in a course by letting the training coordinator know. The training coordinator should be able to give you details of the next available course or 'in-house' event or tell you where to find more information. Often course information can be found on the County FA websites (see above).

Print out the Training Request form from the website complete it and return to the training coordinator.

This form explains the club policy on financing training for members.
